Café Britt's operation meets or exceeds international environmental standards under the norms of ISO 14001: 2004. Programs and projects are in place to make effective use of natural resources, prevent pollution and minimize negative environmental side effects.
Some of these projects are:
Organic Waste Management Program: Creates organic fertilizers using compost and worm compost made from waste products.
Reforestation Program: Plants and incorporates new native tree species on our coffee farm.
Coffee Grower Program: Evaluates conventional coffee farmers via farm visits to provide technical assistance, improve quality and educate farmers about social and environmental norms.
Recycling Program: Recycles basic products such as paper, cardboard, plastic and cans. Promotes reuse of paper and plastic. Creates standards for waste reduction. Fosteres a switch to product labels with environmentally friendly inks.
Environment and the community: Through “Environmental Week,” Café Britt staff and members of our community participate together in activities that illustrate the importance of environmental protection and encourage sound waste-management practices and effective use of natural resources.
Café Britt's practices surpass the requirements of Costa Rica's own environmental-protection laws. |
